Following a BIVDA meeting attended by John H on 23 July, MWE gained insight into discussions with NHS health experts on the proposed NHS Modernisation Bill 2026 and the continued
development of Community Diagnostic Centres (CDCs).
CDCs are designed to provide patients with access to diagnostic tests and scans closer to home, helping to reduce pressure on hospitals and improve access to services. Tests available at CDCs include MRI and CT scans, X-rays, ultrasounds and blood tests. Patients are typically referred by their GP or hospital care team.
The discussion also highlighted the growing role that community-based diagnostics and self-collection could play in the future. MWE continues to work closely with UK healthcare partners to support the development of self-collection products and specimen transport solutions that could enable samples to be returned to laboratories via Community Diagnostic Centres.
