We’re pleased to welcome Sue Macauley to MWE as Account Manager – North, bringing more than 20 years of commercial experience across the life sciences and laboratory sectors, alongside a strong scientific background in microbiology and molecular biology.
With experience spanning laboratory research, technical sales and account management, Sue brings a valuable combination of scientific understanding and customer-focused commercial expertise to her new role at MWE.
A Strong Scientific Foundation
Sue began her career in microbiology and molecular biology, working as a research technician at the Universities of Strathclyde and Glasgow before completing a BBSRC-sponsored PhD in industrial microbial fermentation at Strathclyde University, with Roche Fine Vitamins & Chemicals as the industrial partner.
She then moved into industry gaining hands-on experience within GMP environments and mammalian cell culture.
This early scientific experience has given Sue a strong understanding of laboratory environments and the practical considerations involved in generating reliable results – knowledge she can now bring to her work with MWE customers.
Over 20 Years of Commercial Experience
Following her laboratory career, Sue moved into technical sales and account management, developing more than two decades of experience supporting customers across the life sciences, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.
Throughout her career, she has held roles including Product Specialist and Key Account Manager, working closely with laboratories, scientists and manufacturing organisations to understand their requirements and identify practical solutions.
Her experience across both scientific and commercial environments gives her a valuable perspective when working with customers and understanding the challenges behind different applications.
A Belief in Teamwork
For Sue, collaboration has been a consistent part of both her professional and personal life. She believes that working closely with colleagues and customers is key to finding the right solutions and achieving shared goals.
“Throughout my career, I have worked collaboratively with diverse, cross-functional teams spanning sales, management, customer service, engineering, technical and field applications, and I place great importance on building strong relationships and a positive team ethic to achieve shared goals.”
That team spirit extends beyond the workplace too. Sue has captained ladies’ triples pétanque teams to three consecutive Scottish National titles, as well as leading ladies’ triples and doubles teams to success at international pétanque championships in Spain and Denmark.
For Sue, these experiences have reinforced the importance of communication, trust and bringing out the best in every member of a team.
Looking Ahead at MWE
Sue is particularly looking forward to bringing her scientific and commercial experience together at MWE and returning to her microbiology roots.
“I’m really looking forward to getting out across the North, meeting MWE’s existing customers and developing new relationships. Having started my career in microbiology, it’s exciting to come back to an area that has always interested me, while bringing with me the customer and commercial experience I’ve gained over the last 20 years.”
In her new role, Sue will support customers across the North of the UK, working across MWE’s clinical, food, pharmaceutical, veterinary, environmental and forensic markets.
With her combination of scientific knowledge, commercial experience and collaborative approach, Sue will work closely with customers to understand their applications and help them identify the right specimen collection and transport solutions for their needs.
