Improved Sensitivity and Workflow Utilising a Modified Pre-Analytical Methodology with the Serosep PCR EntericBio Gastro Panel 2

Using 38 culture- and ELISA-confirmed positive stool samples and 12 negative controls, SIGMA-FECAL TRANSWAB® was evaluated as an alternative specimen collection device for use with the Serosep EntericBio Gastro Panel 2. Results were compared with the standard Copan FLOQSwab® workflow. Fecal Transwab® demonstrated high concordance with conventional culture and ELISA methods and improved detection of Salmonella, reducing false-negative results from four to one. Both flocked and foam swab formats performed similarly and showed complete compatibility with the EntericBio workflow. The findings suggest that Fecal Transwab® can support more efficient specimen collection and processing while maintaining diagnostic accuracy for molecular detection of enteric pathogens.
