Neisseria gonorrhoeae

The Efficacy of MWE SIGMA-VCM™ Transport System in Maintaining Viability of Neisseria gonorrhoeae

Stuczen,
2011
Neisseria gonorrhoeae viability was assessed in the SIGMA-VCM™ transport system under room temperature and refrigerated conditions in accordance with CLSI M40-A protocols. A quantified inoculum was prepared from fresh isolates, applied to swabs, and incubated for up to 24 hours before recovery. Viable organisms were enumerated using serial dilution, spiral plating, and colony counting. SIGMA-VCM™ maintained recovery of N. gonorrhoeae at both room temperature and 4°C over 24 hours, with improved preservation under refrigerated conditions. These findings indicate the system supports short-term survival of this fastidious organism, including under standard transport conditions relevant to clinical diagnostics.
