Influenza A virus

Comparison of VIROCULT® Swab, SIGMA-Swab and SIGMA-VIROCULT® for Influenza a Viability for Cell Culture and Molecular Detection

Valette,
2010
Σ -VIROCULT® with foam swab transport systems were evaluated for their ability to preserve Influenza A (H3N2) during transport delays of up to four days. Following storage at room temperature and 4°C, samples were assessed by RT-PCR, antigen detection, and virus isolation. All three transport systems maintained viral detection and supported virus isolation throughout the study period; however, Σ -VIROCULT® demonstrated superior preservation of viral infectivity at lower viral concentrations. These findings support their suitability for influenza surveillance and diagnostic workflows where extended transport times may occur.
